Probably because it was a cheap liner. They didn't want to spend a lot of money on a funeral for someone who had no family or whose family didn't care enough to attend, so they cut corners while still being respectful. I imagine the occupants wouldn't know the difference anyway...
Motts, first time adressing you on these boards, but, I have to say that this site kick so much ass....and this hospital is by far the most interesting I have seen yet...If I was a billionaire I would do anything in my power to restore a place like this to its former splendour...It's like the house of Usher if you think about it. Anyway, thanks for the photos and thanks for progressing the sport of Urban Exploration.
The mid - tone colour is unique, if a little cold. In addition, it may seem that patients were almost oblivious to the outside world, due to the several barred windows - as if they could aspire to a different environment yet could not go there. A simple yet effective, thought provoking shot.
Jprichard, I think this photography of the dead is called, "memento mori", and was common long ago. They even positioned the dead in lifelike poses, using braces much like people use to display dolls. It is said that often these photos were the only ones ever taken of the deceased child. Quite disturbing and fascinating, I agree
