ok just wanted to clerify there is no security there.. I spent 4 nights at this hospital just a few months ago to inspect what could be a "haunted" location and never once saw a security gaurd making rounds and we took pics at night with flashs and ran a few times screaming never anything
There was a very interesting program about a month ago--on either the History Channel or Discovery--about what would happen to everything on earth if man were to suddenly disappear (only animals would remain behind...), and it was fascinating to see how scientists--using computer animation and special effects--determined how nature will eventually reclaim everything, and what manmade elements don't disintegrate under the ravages nature and weather will get buried under the growth of vegetation. It was very interesting... I recommend everyone try and watch it if you ever get the chance.
Well, I have often thought how cool it would be to explore abandoned sites such as this one (with a burly and brave companion, of course)...but after the mention that there is asbestos, I don't know how wise a thing that would be to do... Still, IF those walls could talk... THAT is what appeals to me the most about any abandoned structure: the HISTORY and the people that came and went through there. Sadly, in a sanitorium such as this, many folks who ended up there didn't leave alive, I imagine (especially the children). Personally, my mother told me that I had a mild case of Tuberculosis as an infant... glad I survived...
I, too, have always loved those buildings. I used to drive by there regularly on my way home from past jobs, and would fantasize about what it would be like if the property were nenovated into nice apartments or condos, and the old Doctor's houses were also fixed up and sold. It is such a shame the property is not being used for something, considering that of the many abandoned properties featured in this great site, it is NOT all that old (if you notice the date it was opened and the date it was closed down...). Maybe...someday...
As a kid growing up we had so much speculation about this place. If it was haunted and so forth. We never had the courage to step foot on the grounds. Thanks for this.
Does anyone know if the building(s) still stand? My friends and I as teenagers use to explore the abandoned hospital buildings in the late 80's early 90's. I tried looking for it on Google Maps but I'm thinking they finally cleared and flattened the buildings? Anyone know?
The building is beautiful but unfortunately is is riddled with asbestos and would cost a fotune to demolish and can't be renovated. That is why it sits like it has for 27 years.
