Pennhurst is one of my favorite places featured on this site. I haven't been there, but hopefully someday. Thanks for posting these pictures.

The residents of this building may not have been ambulatory at all, so the tub could be raised up to make the task of bathing a little less back-breaking for the attendants.

Hmm, they appear to be steel anchor plates for the inner brick wall. Perhaps it was in danger of collapsing, so these tie rods were put in after construction, which would account for the holes in the plaster.

I wonder if this was a visitor lounge? Upholstery just seems wrong. It does seem set up to be inviting to Ladies.

V in medicine is usually "visual" . In psych VC = visual contact. Online medical acronym VH= visual hallucination. Of course it could be something to do with some kind of activity, not a standard abbreviation. Is Lynne still around? She knows this stuff.
This is a lovely shot of a relatively-undamaged part of the exterior. Thanks again for a wonderful new gallery and great photos, Mr. Motts.
This room is not too badly damaged. I agree with wanderer - I wonder how patients got in and out of the tub. I presume with some sort of stool, and they'd have to be supervised at all times to avoid someone deciding to get out of the tub not realizing the height of it.
I echo Tootuncommon's comment.
Love the stone or marble door "frame", and also the beautiful lamp hanging there.
