Perhaps the "desk" was an adult changing table?
Im not sure, but I think it was "El Peecho's" web site where he states that he found all kinds of secret rooms that were sealed up.... stairwells that were boarded over. He had some pictures.....
Motts, did you experience anything like this besides this room here?
workedwithpennhurstpts.... I'd like to hear more also....
Curtains match the walls.....
Like those murals - even when first painted would cheer anyone - especially a child... I'm beginning to believe that some of the decision makers at Pennhurst were really sick bastards.
Sam, yes, you seem quite intellegent to me.
If you do ever go back again, see if you can re-find them, While I would never condone torture, I am very curious to hear what exactly is on the pics.
I am very surprised that no one turned them over to the police....... weird.....
I always find that to be so odd.......
You take a Rusty Bed and turn it into a work of art.... [sigh........] I wish I could take such pictures....
Such a strange contrast... a patient bed in a basement against the stone walls.....
Great picture!
Maybe a bathroom?.....

The NBC10 website describes Suffer the Little Children as: "perhaps the most important news report in WCAU history"

Thank you for that much improved video link.
Sam, if they knocked down the door that leads out a 2nd story, why didn't they take out the stairs? Especially if it was to track patients more thorougly.... I'm sure they'd be easy to find splattered on the ground ..... lol
Lonely should be the very worst that this picture conjures up. Unfortunately, that would only be the beginning of the horror that Pennhurst was. My little brother was admitted to Pennhurst in 1964. I can't even begin to tell you how awful things were -- and so I won't even try. In and of themselves, all of these pictures are snapshots of a real live nightmare; however, if you actually knew someone who resided at Pennhurst and saw all of this first-hand, then that nightmare is still alive and kicking.

I drove past the mental hospital lastnight and saw some of the remaining buildings of whats left of it and it made me sad. Me and all my siblings wanted to go explore the place but it said no trespassing. My aunt used to dance there when it was still open. To entertain the people. So I wanted to research on it.
