i wanna go to pennhurst soo bad but everytime i go someone pussy's out i love that place and would love to hear someone or something back there it would scar me but thats the whole point of going for a fucking thrill yeah oo yeah by the way i live right in pottstown and im definay going soon again~~~~~!!!
Oh please give me a freakin' break. I want to scream every time I read one of these posts about an alledged former employee who believed all it took was love and understanding to make an institution a better place. It was and always will be MONEY. Do you understand that to take a client outside to play in the snow could be a disaster waiting to happen. And for the most part there was never enough staff to do that anyway. The tunnels were there for a reason one being that in bad weather there was no need to go outside. I don't see where that is so horrible. And one last thing, I went to work there for the paycheck ( they payed pretty good at the time) and I didn't abuse anyone. I'm sure a majority of the people working in group homes are also working for their paychecks. Get real!
The Majority of Pennhurst is still abandon. They turned the main part of the hospital into the VA hospital years ago. In fact I believe they did it shortly after Pennhurst closing but long before 2006.
I was just recently to Pennhurst and it is still empty. The halls are filled with the history of the torture that happened in this place.
Roland Johnson wrote his first hand experience of the terror he faced as a young boy. Read it, it will bring new respect to Pennhurst and relief we were never a patient. Google Roland Johnson and the article will come up. After Pennhurst he went on to become a Speaker of Special Needs and Disabled peoples. He is a great man and brought a postive turn around out of such a horrible experience.
I know some of these comments are very old but the police patrol the ground so you dont get hurt. The buildings have espestos in them. Several of the buildings are beginning to fall down also. So be careful in Pennhurst land and keep a keen ear.
As I read topics and hear different stories about Penn Hurst I asked a former employee about the conditions at this institution. From the information I gathered.... There was a lot of abuse and cruelty from employees. My source said that it was heart wrenching to see. But she also said that when she came aboard that a lot of changes were made to. Some of these kids didn't even get to walk in the snow, they walked through tunnels. These kids didn't even have to get dressed everyday. Some were tied up just because people didn't have the patience and love to give. My source told me that while she worked there that a lot of changes were made and people that really did care for the well being of these kids showed them patience, care and love. They put a stop to tying kids to there beds, took them outside, made sure they were dressed everyday.
Some people just go to work for a paycheck and don't care for anyone but themselves. They took a very demanding job without having a clue that it took more than just enough to get the job done..,... And then you have the FEW that want to make a difference. That want to help people, care for people, love people.
One of the eeriest things on campus is located right near here. At nighttime, a single light in the overgrown courtyards to the right is kept burning. Very odd considering that no other power really runs in this institution.
These tunnels cannot have been used for transporting the deceased because they were not connected to the Whitman (Morgue) building. I would think they were used to either keep the patients out of the rain, or out of the snow in the winter. I've been in this tunnel several times, and it's particularly creepy because an ancient wheelchair has been left in it.
