me an my friends went there. an yea they did take down a lot some one said they were gonna make
hotels or some thing like that.
me and my friends went by the train part an then by the big water tower the door didnt open. an yea there is a lot of cops an a lot of people just passing there its pretty crazy at night i love that my school is like right by it so after school we just can walk there an look at shit inside.
The ambulance company I work for has a vending machine in the ambulance bay where you can get a can of soda for 35 cents. Its a perk of the job, I guess, Because I'm pretty sure they pay more for the soda then 35 cents.
The Before and After photos are truly amazing.
Bautiful old houses, lovely setting. I can almost imagine coming home from work to curl up beside a fire with a good book... almost....

I up driving and took a wrong turn ( or two) and founf myself here in front of this powerplant. I had no idea what it was but it did give of a scary vibe. I was with my two sisters and we actually parked right in front and got a closer look and I didnt see one cop. We were way to scared to go inside though, we took one step into the doorway and there was deep rumbling noises and sounde like metal clashing together. it was wierd

I recently watched an episode of "Law and Order" that looked like parts of it were filmed in abandoned sections of a mental hospital. The worst conditions were in a ward that had been closed, called "Ward 5" in the show, with a small "Ward 5" sign above the door, like the one in this picture. I think the episode was called "Land of the Free" from season 17. It was about the conditions in veterans' hospitals where wounded veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan are treated. I couldn't find any details about the filming of the location shots on the show's website. Does anyone know where it was filmed?

Usually the possibility of someone attempting to fake mental illness to avoid responsibility for a crime comes up right away--one of the questions on petitions for mental hygiene evaluations (the precursor of commitment to a psychiatric hospital) is what criminal charges, if any, the patient faces. When doing an intake, social history, or psychiatric evaluation the professional always asks about any involvement the patient has with the police, other government agencies, the military, etc.

Careful evaluation will usually detect the "fakers" relatively quickly (often because they forget that a person who really has a mental illness has it *all* the time, not just when the doctor is thought to be watching). I have found it more difficult to determine how great a role a patient's *known* and long-diagnosed mental illness or developmental disability plays in determining his/her culpability for an act.

I worked with one man whose psychiatrist suggested to him that he (the patient) would benefit from a girlfriend. The patient began asking every woman he knew or saw on the street to be his girlfriend, and persisted in asking even if told "no." At least one woman felt threatened, and there was the possibility of him being labelled a "sex offender." We were able to demonstrate to the court that what he needed was social skills training, not punishment. That was a relatively straightforward case where the patient genuinely intended no harm (he thought he was "following doctor's orders," something he had always been encouraged to do) and did not know that he was violating any social norms. It is much more difficult when violence is involved.
cONTINUING FROM MY PREVIOUS COMMENT. i WORKED AS A TRANSCRIPTIONIST TYPING UP CASE HISTORIES. i WORKED IN A ROOM WITH 20 OTHER GIRLS AND WE ALL TRANSCRIBED PATIENTS' HISTORIES USING A DICTAPHONE. THERE WERE NO COPYING MACHINES IN THOSE DAYS (1957-58) SO EVERYTHING HAD TO BE TYPED. I REMEMBER WHEN THEY FIRST TRIED OUT A COPYING MACHINE (WHICH DIDN'T WORK OUT). THEY HAD A HUGE TUB FILLED WITH WATER AND CHEMICALS AND I WOULD DIP A TYPED DOCUMENT INTO THE LIQUID FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES, THEN TAKE OUT. IT WAS TOO DARK AND THAT IDEA WAS ABANDONED. ALSO WITH NO COMPUTERS, NO WHITE OUT OR CORRECTION TAPE, ANY TYPING MISTAKES HAD TO BE FIRST SCRATCHED WITH A RAZOR BLADE AND THEN ERASED . i WORKED IN THE MAIN BUILDING, THE ADMIN BLDDG. AND OFTEN HAD TO WALK THRU THE TUNNELS TO GET TO ANOTHER BUILDING. HAD TO USE A SKELETON KEY EVERY TIME A DOOR WAS OPENED AND CLOSED. WHEN WALKING THRU THE TUNNELS, AT EACH END THERE WAS AN HONOR PATIENT WHO JUST SAT THERE. WHEN I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TUNNEL , THE PATIENT WOULD TURN THE LIGHTS OFF. I WAS 19 SO IT WAS SCARY. ALSO GROUPS OF PATIENTS WOULD WALK PAST OUR ROOM WITH A MATRON GUIDING THEM. ONE TIME ONE OF THE PATIENTS RAN INTO OUR ROOM, PICKED UP A CHAIR AND WAS ABOUT TO HIT OUR BOSS WHO SAT IN FRONT OF THE ROOM. THEY HAD HONOR PATIENTS ALL OVER. ONE WOULD STAND IN THE DOORWAY TO OUR ROOM AND JUST STARE AT ME. I WAS WARNED BY THE OTHER GIRLS NOT TO APPROACH HIM. I HAD THE PRIVILEGE TO GO TO THE FILE ROOM AND READ THEIR HISTORIES (BECAUSE I COULDN'T UNDERSTANDTHE DOCTORS, WHO SPOKE VERY POOR ENGLISH. ONE TIME I HAD A HARD TIME TRYING TO UNDERSATND A WORD A DOCTOR WAS SAYING (ON THE TRANSCRIBING MACHINE. INSTEAD OF SAYING "PATIENT WAS PUT IN A SAFETY SHEET" HE WAS MISPRONOUNCING "SAFETY", HE WOULD SAY "SOF ITEE" SHEET. MY MOM WORKED AT EDGEWOOD AT THE SAME TIME WHERE THEY HOUSED MENTALLY ILL PATIENTS WHO ALSO SUFFERED FROM TB.
i WALKED THROUGH THESE HALLS MANY TIMES BACK IN 1957 WHILE WORKING AT PILGRIM.
