Is it really morbid to wish I could restore this place to live in it?
What a beautiful building! THIS is the reason that they should restore the buildings: If they're this beautiful in a slightly decomposing state, think of how gorgeous they'd be fully restored!
Loving this website it's amazing, my favourite pictures are from abandoned mental hospitals.

For the trench thing, seeing this is a German and therapy type place... I'd suggest that we're looking at a (and I'm not 100% sure on this)

This would be a soviet stretcher bearer, aka a medic. In his left hand is indeed a stretcher, in his right hand he is holding his medics field pack and over his right shoulder is the soviet PPSh 41, the most mass produced weapon of its kind during WW2. The medal in the top left hand corner is the "Hero of the Soviet Union" medal, the soviet equivalent to the US "Medal of Honor". The title Hero of the S is the highest distinction in the soviet union.

Maybe a monument to the medical workers. It looks like a rolled up stretcher in his left hand. Of course the right hand looks to he holding an item that may be a gun.
