I usually shoot from 3-6 hours on average.
Then the pathologist gives the "gross" description which is the general appearance of the tissue - measurements, soft, hard, bone, etc. Then they look at it under the microscope and give the "micro" description which is reading the tissue itself for the diagnosis. Some need to be decalcified between the gross and the micro and some have to sit in another fixative before they go under the scope.
