There's a few suitcase left in Cane Hill & other British places. From reading a former superintendant's account patients were almost banned from keeping much, even the more able ones weren't allowed any storage facilies on the grounds they would just hoard junk. This was changed in later years.
Some clowns have a strange screeching laugh that can be scary. I remember reading about someone Irish American who's parents banned them from going to a cirus because they considered clowns to be part of some ani-Irish propaganda.
Youtube had lots of old Sid Davis style information films from the time homosexuality was considered a desease. The seem too daft to take serious these days,
I've got Asperger syndrome & was interested to see a programme about Temple Grandin a while back. She nearly ended up being certified at a young age, which is fairly worring.
From Urbex & other British abandoned building sites the use of padded cells in the UK was mainly phased out in the 1960s due to the development of new medical treatment. There are one or two places that still had them when they closed.
The projectionist here had the good life. Rewinding film by hand sucks! Not bad for a hospital which wouldn't have had the pressure of running film all day.
Someone asked why there were two... Since our light only lasted about 20 minutes you had the next 20 minutes ready to go on projector 2 and switched back and forth between each reel. If you look carefully, you will still still 2 dots appear on the top right corner of a movie screen every 20 minutes. Those are the indicators for the projectionist to know when to perform the change over. First dot means to start the next projector and the second is the indicator to change.
What an excellent picture, I think it's really quite clever.
My reading of it is that it is saying even though she isn't accepted by others, 'dont worry' she is simply doing her own thing. 'dancing' to her own beat.
Most of the rooms at this facility were white, and some seclusion rooms were a pale orange color... usually I see the real wild colors like Baker's Pink in older hospitals or ones that have not been renovated recently.
Things like that are very surreal in a spooky way. I wonder what year that picture was from? People had different attitudes about clowns and such in different times.
