This looks too modern to be original. Panel wainscoting, square arches ..not 1907 style. Z might be right. I can see this as military cafeteria. Could have been a cashier/clerk''s stand on the raised portion.
gives new meaning to soliltary confinement. Imagine being locked in there, not knowing if they forgot about you....if you'll ever get out. Creepy, crreepy, creepy.
Talked to the 92 year old next door. He took part in "liberating" France in WWII. His memory is pretty good. He said this was probably the laundry. Also said French bathrooms did not have urinals. Just a wall to aim at and a channel on the floor that water tricked through to a drain.
Kind of makes you wonder why it wasn't locked up in the "padlock loop room",
