im starting to notice that most all of the medical buildings at the hospitals and asylums look some what similar. the same style. i wonder why this is.
i just came back from there. i went with 2 friends of mine. it was dark which made the place pretty creepy, but it wasnt that bad. it was interesting to see old patient files. but the morgue still sent shivers up my spine
Is anyone going? I would love to I know it's now November, isn't Letchworth off limits or can people still go on the grounds and into some buildings? Thanks
I grew up in Rockland County. Lived in Garnerville and in Haverstraw. My neighbor and my oldest sister both worked at Letchworth. I tried but quit after about a week. Like someone said it was overcrowded and there were abusive staff members who mistreated some of the more defenseless people. But there were good hard working people as well. I just couldn't take all the suffering of these poor folks. It really was given a beautiful location. Sorry that it's going to be torn down for apartments (if that's true). There is so much history there. Thanks for this site.
When I was eight I would attend the stony point ambulance fire works right across the street in the active part of letchworth. My curiosity for the other abandoned buildings wasn't filled up until three years ago. At fifteen I walked through the old medical building like it was nothing. I know where everything is like the back of my hand. Now seventeen when I walk through that building it feels like someone or something is trying to tell me something ....
speaking of bruno, my grandfather worked at letchworth and would always hide bruno's steering wheel. my grandfather told me about bruno around 4 years ago and i thought it was all a lie but it turns out that my current girlfriend's father would help bruno find his lost wheel after my grandfather had hidden it. oddly the two men did not know of one another.
Bruno has also been quoted saying, "wanna see my new wheels?" reffering to a new steering wheel
I worked at Letchworth for 14 years. Did several jobs. To see these photos brings back many memories. Good and bad. Many of the residents there were just homeless, and were stuck in there. others needed to be there. When I started working there it was very overcrowded. There were 4,000 residents. As time went by, the population was reduced. The scariest place was walking through the tunnels under the buildings. Myself and several coworkers did it, in mid winter, and it must have been 100 degrees, due to steam pipes located in there. In the tunnels were traps, with dead cats in them. What horrible sight! Letchworth had an out of control cat population, so I guess they tried to control it by trapping them. The best memory was the friends I made up there, residents and coworkers alike.Memories that will last a lifetime. Sad to see it now abandoned and over grown with vegetation.
Hey Letchworth Fans, I was there last sunday and it was extremly beautiful.
I am a photographer myself and I had a lot of fun, after exploring the buildings I came home and i started researching about it.
I think I became a Letchworth Fan, every little detail about this place fascinates me.
I really would like to go there again with other people.
I would really apreciate if someone can send me a Map with all the houses and where the morgue is and the power house and the tunnels, because I missed a lot and I dont know where I can find this places.
If someone wants to show me around or anything this fall on a weekend. It would be highly recomendet.
