Actually, it is a muscle stimulator, used on non ambulatory, or comatose patients to make sure atrophy doesn't kick in. Output one was put on one end of a nerve junction, and 2 was put on the other, and a current was run through at differing wave patterns, stimulating the muscles. It was also used on people with psychosomatic paralysis for the same reasons. The voltage put through (in D.C.) was in the milliamp range, not enough to cause initial discomfort, but enough to cause stiffness and cramps afterward.. An interesting find!
