Wow! I really like this photo! I feel like you captured the spirit of this place and it stays with you... It's as if someone had been sitting in that chair for years waiting for a release and it finally came to them...sheding light upon the darkness they once felt...wow...
Motts, your work has been such an inspiration to me. I am not nearly the photographer that you are, but I DO intend to start exploring old buildings again thanks to the photos you have posted here. I have a couple of guys lined up to explore the abandoned VA hospital wards here in Asheville NC in the next couple of days.
I went in the asbestos contaminated gothic/colonial style building three years ago. Since that time a razorwire fence has been put up around the place, but when I was scoping it out today I noticed that someone had already cut a nice sized hole in said fence, and the boards over the back door had been shattered.
I walked in about ten feet, but a noise scared me out. I'll feel better when I have some guys with me.
I find it interesting that in almost all of the other rooms, and along the walls of the other wards, the colors are very neutral, but in the violent ward, the colors are very aggressive....could there be some sort of mental impact caused by this color?
Does anybody know how to get in touch with the photographer? I'm writing a book on abandoned asylums and would love his input. Or anyone else's for that matter! email me plumperfect415@aol.com
Karo syrup? Possibly some hobo once had his breakfast in there. He found some old hotcakes in a dumpster. Had enough pocket munny to buy some Karo at the 7-11.
After he found out the hotcakes were stale, he threw the Karo bottle against the door, effectively splattering it for future generations to figure out.
