please keep us on this issue
I was in Millbrook in October 2009 on a nostagia trip, visiting the area that I grew up in. My grandparents used to live in a house almost across the street from Bennett School. I remember going to visit them in the mid sixties and watching the Bennett students play lacrosse on the lawn. We would sneak over there and prowl around, thinking we were being very secretive. It was a fascinating place and held much promise, had it not been left to deteriorate to the point of no return.
It's as if Joe Bukater's estate "Meadow mere" overlooks an empty play lot.

How wonderful to see your post on your days at Bennett>Danica! This school has by far always been one of my favorite places on Motts site. A place i would love to visit before Demo. But, will never have the chance, Thanks for your comments. What a lovely school you went to!

Thank you for the memories; the buildings are still extant, but demolition isn't far away...
I was a student at Bennett from 62 to 64, and I lived in one of the upper rooms which had two window seats, with three windows. We had 4 of us in that room and the bathtub above looks very much like the one we used. I want to thank you for showing me the photos of the College. I just happened upon this website as I had been looking for anything about the school, as I loved it and had many happy moments there. It breaks my heart that it looks as it does in the photos, because it was such a beautiful campus, with the old stone buildings with a lovely small country town. Many of us remember sitting in front of the television for the hours of the Kennedy Assasination and following, and we all particularly remember where we were when Presidient Kennedy died. Thank you for keeping all those memories alive, as I am sure by now the buildings are gone, forever.
as of september 14th 2010, the Village of Millbrook has 30 days to outline dates by which the owner of Halcyon Hall, Bennett LLC,
must begin demolition, under compliance with building codes.
so in about 20 days, it will ostensibly become public information exactly when this building will be [ordered to be] torn down.
In other words, probably soon. But who knows?

Blowing buildings like this up has been tried. EPA and others have issues with vaporizing asbestos, LBP, etc into the atmosphere.

Kill-joys.

My bet is on an eventual - very spectacular - fire.

I did not say "accidental."

Millbrook isn't the same as I knew it in the '80's- it still looks like a sleepy hamlet- the residents have changed !!!!! too bad
yes, halcyon hall is still standing. and despite current scenarios,
i don't see anyone spending the ten million dollars to tear it down
any day soon, regardless of what legal edicts are issued, ya know?

i predict collapse, a lightning strike, etc. which will then force
some entities' hand to BEGIn demo...

i really do prefer my scenario of it being blown up violently as part of the climax of some big budget movie. Gets rid of the problem,
in a way that lives on forever, generates income, but doesn't require
ruining the site forever after with shit/faux tudor condos and such.

It's perplexing to me why not, America has become known primarily at this point as a people who are best at Blowing Shit Up. And making
Major Motion Pictures about Blowing Shit Up.

Someone get hold of Ridley Scott's Location Scouts!
I am completely serious, I am baffled this has not been a location for film, print ,photo, rock video[[that last one may change soon! heh he..]
