i can't seem to find things. i am a pawn of so much paper, in a digital
world...
but i Hear things, like the Village is pursuing a Contempt Order
against Halcyon Hall's "owner" Bennett Acquisitions LLC,for back
fines and taxes, to the tune of over $2 Million Dollars.
This will never be paid. As a result the Village of Millbrook will
try to "sell" Halcyon. No one will pay $2 Million Dollars. The Village
will then own Halcyon outright. And they have no plan for developing
the parcel, or for financing their own demolition order, either, which
will cost more than $5ive Million Samolians. Ouch.
So the cat continues to chase it's own tail. Or should that be the fox?
It IS Millbrook, after all.
The new "stratergy" will be to fob the whole enchilada off to the county.
It recently tore down the wildy historic Nelson House Hotel annex in Poughkeepsie, laden with asbestos. Around a Million and a half
Smackeroos. They sprayed alot of water. It came down Quick. Would
have happened sooner if not for Sandy. It is now a makeshift parking lot for the county, in a section that is favored for commercial and civic
expansion. The proposal to turn Market St back to 2-way traffic is
slated to cost between 1 and 2 Million dollars.
{always the same amounts, it seems for all these dings...
Especially that last one!
Hell, who wants to go in with me on redoing Market for just 1 Million?
Let's put in a bid! Signage, curbage, some traffic light switcheroo...
Why so much?
Anyway, never mind all that. Just my usual rhetoric. No Serious
people should take it, uhh...seriously. Yeah.
Back on topic, Millbrook's Mayor reiterated her "hopes {for demolition}"
and admitted "Every week people are breaking in."
I think if the county gets hold of it, it'll come down sooner than later.
But in the end, all these plans, desperate or well -laid, are merely
racing gravity, eh?
I have the floor plans of all floors except the basement. Also still need photos of the west wing side and east wing furthest building interior photos, particularly the side that is closest to the east wing primary structure.
go back to opening page of "bennett school" then scroll down and U'll see a very good but not complete floor plan- guess I'll have to go to the Millbook library and take pics of this
This is from the website of Hudson River Valley Heritage site. You can scroll down to the actual floor plans. Are you familiar with these? Your model is amazing.
Really? I had no idea about those. In all honesty I never seen the balcony in photos, the most I had to go off from was a floor plan which just looked like a U. I wasn't even sure if it actually existed. I really do love that dining hall though, it was definitely one of its best features... I hope there was a reason why they demolished it other than "expansion"
Thank you ^.^!
Oh the side stairs are my invention I think though :o in some places I implemented my own ideas for sake of creativity. I'd like to think my Halcyon Hall best represents what it would look like today had it not been abandoned.
Does anyone have any old/new photos of the furthest east building interior? I have a lot of trouble finding decent shots of its hallways and such. I consider part of it as the lobby to the music hall room.
Also any news on those recent photos of the west wing west side? Basement photos and floorplans?
Obviously it is an analog of the actual interior, but it is really great you were able to recreate the long gone dining hall, demolished c.1920's
It is surprisingly the most accurate! And I especially love how you
"lead the tour" up the stairs, to the Nuremberg Window, which was
a small, interior balcony, imported from Germany, that overlooked
into the dining hall, and served as a minstrel's gallery, where the
small Russian Court Orchestra would serenade diners.
Thanks again all, using cubes and squares and rectangles to make something isn't easy. I suppose the limitation of not being able to just recreate it exactly, makes it more of a challenge and inspires me to figure out ways to work with squares even more lol.
and again sorry for the video quality, I think it has something to do with java when recording. My other videos don't end up that way.
I am probably the closest to the disaster but several hours away Oklahome is in "Tornado Alley" nuthin' new for them but it's scarey as I had two pass by me in recent years -very helpless - have seen destrustion like that in Tennessee
