This was a quiet room, its where they put patients to calm down when thought to go into episodes.
I was a patient here as a teenager, thats how I know this.
I remember running from the cops here at night after a group of friends visited this place. It was quite eerie and felt haunted. Thugs also hung out there and shot at our group when they heard us coming. The cops also told us that there were multiple gang rapes that occurred there. They noted our names and told us never to return. The rush was unforgettable.
Lamp! It is good-looking.
Let no-one out. You can´t leave.
Let no-one in. Nobody CAN come in.
Double fence net.
It is really a terrible though.
The shot is good.

I worked there two different times, lived within a few miles of there I all my life. I knew many many people who worked there as most of my neighbors and relatives spent years working there. Yes there were people who used a abusive amount of strength, but they were dealt with. The majority of people who worked there loved their work and really cared for the residents. I just hate when I read only of the ones who banged heads and abused the residents. There was a great amount of good that was done there and the residents were cared for, fed, medicated and yes protected. I still live here and my heart aches when I drive by and it is all just gone.

I worked here for years and have fond memories of both staff and patients I worked with. I worked on a lot of different wards both in Rehab and Admissions. Spent lots of time on the grounds and running back and forth in the many tunnels going from building to building.I hated leaving when they started closing down
The open half door was probably the office - had to be able to hear while charting, etc., while also being safe(r). The door down the all, closer to the door to the day room, was probably the med room - the ledge at the top of the half door is where juice cups were set for patients to take as they progressed to the door in a line. I liked the juice, tasted like Tang. The institutional peanut butter was a killer - literally - a patient aspirated it in a PB&J prepared for snack time, and was dead within a few minutes. I remember his name. Retarded, but always nice.

I was lucky enough to tour part of the hospital during a visit to the Medical Records Department. I worked at a different facility in Lansing and came to see how different YSH was, and boy, was it!! Such a shame these old facilities were torn down. Whenever I'm down that way now, I look off to where the grounds once were and remember what a magnificent place it was!
they called this the Aquarium, they realy did.
I remember this day room in 2000, the black thing to the right of that door way is a stereo cabinet , the brown box on the floor was the TV cabinet, from where the pic was taken there was a small bathroom and a space for exercise bikes and equiptment
I was in C 4-2 in 1999 - 2000 yes those were then smoking porches when I was there, pack em in and let em smoke, the lighter was on the wall. I Often wonder what happend to Doc. a fellow patient, Or a very good worker named Bruce

York woods center was behind all of the bigger bldgs. It was a lot smaller. They have houses built on that part of the property . I think the name of that subdivision has part of York wood centers name in it. At least it did the last time I was there.I worked in the main hospital for years.
