It's quite common for these buildings to be used as training for Police who do a lot of warrants with barracaded and armed suspects. It's better to learn by getting hit with a simulated bullet than to make the same mistake and get hit with a real one.

Does your son have a tag name he goes by? I've given away at least a dozen flashlights to teens in there that went in without one. I try to be cool to folks of all ages in there. I was only fourteen when I went into the Byberry buildings that used to be on the edge of Parkwood on Townsend road back in 1982.
