Givin the age of the building it is highly likely that these were hand laid. Especially in the places where it has to go around something like the knewel posts.
In the straight aways it could be rolls of tile that are on sheets and you grout in once you finish our inital layer of cementing.

As it's been pointed out by our resident craftsmen. Many of these buildings were handcrafted and a lot of pride went into the construction of the buildings.

Keeping it clean was and always is a part of maintainance that goes unnoticed.

Creepy......my older brother was a resident here in the early 1960's.
What a shock to see this once vibrant facility crumbling.
What kind of photo gear are you using?
Thx for the site!

Kelso-

When you are arrested for trespassing. It is the discretion of the city. state, or county that you live in to further press charges.
Should they decide to, you will go before a judge, either with or without a jury present and you will be sentenced to any varying thing from actual time served at your local county facility or community service work.
You may also be subject to a fine that will be determined by the judge.

This will also be placed on your permanent record, and should you get caught again, then you repeat the process only with harsher punishments the more you get busted.

Until evenutally they will tire of seeing you permanently and then they will like send you off to a state or federal penetiniary to teach you not to tresspass anymore.

My cousins and I went on Dec 29th 2005 at night when it was raining. We parked the car in the trees and went in with our flashlights and cameras hoping to see some ghosts. unfortunately we never did but we were scared shittless anyway. That place is freaky.

Are those really individually laid mosaic tiles in the floor? The variation in pattern suggests they might be.. seems a lot of really detailed work for what eventually is a hard floor to keep clean. Crud..I've become my own mom.
As always, thanks for the new gallery,Mr. Motts.

Ronnie,

At the very bottom of the page is a place where you can click "Contact the Admin" for the answer to questions like that or to write directly.

No there wasn't much if any paperwork left behind.

You might be able to find books about treating psychological disorders in certain eras, although I would imagine there are a myriad of different disorders and treatments to look through.

Patient records are probably managed by the Connecticut State Department of Mental Health, who would be able to help you more than I can: www.dmhas.state.ct.us
Hey guys! I am the one who wrote this poem on the wall of a first-story room in the front of Building 7 a few years ago. I have been exploring the Kings Park Psychiatric Center since I was 10 years ols in August of 1996. The campus itself had not closed until the following November. I must say that I am qualified to be considered an historian of this wonderful abandoned place, and can answer any questions you might have about it. Funny, I wrote this stanza on the wall in hopes that I would hear about it later, and it seems to have worked. Yes, it is written on another hospital wall elsewhere. I DO NOT condone the vandalism of this beautiful derelict campus. However, even Napoleon left his "tag" on the pyramids, and now that, too, is history. Long live the KPPC! -Brendyn Smyth

ARE THERE ANY "HAUNTINGS" BEING HEARD OF IN NSH?
That is a heart wrenching photo. Good eye Motts. I wish it did say Beth.

MR. MOTTS? DID YOU HAPPEN TO NOTICE ANY PATIENT INFO IN ADMINISTRATION? MY AUNT WAS A LONG TIME PATIENT AT NSH. AND IS MENTALLY RETARDED AND CAN NOT TELL ME ANYTHING ABOUT HER STAY THERE. I WAS JUST WONDERING WHAT TYPES OF MEDS THEY USED BACK THEN AND HOW THEY TREATED DIFFERENT THINGS. I FIGURED ANYTHING LEFT BEHIND SUCH AS PATIENT RECORDS WOULD GIVE ME MY ANSWER. BEAUTIFUL GALLERY! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

I love the hallway pics, but I think this might be my all time favorite.

If you were arrested for trespassing, yes they would take your cameras and other belongings as evidence, you'd probably get it back after the trial and all that but it's probably the last thing you'd be worried about.
