what building is this in??????

Thank you so much for your comments, Bob. I love hearing stories like these from those who were somehow involved or connected to the hospital history. I think I have seen your comments before on another Dixmont site somewhere. Keep em' coming.

By the way...the only building still in current usage which was a part of the Dixmont property is the Cammarata Building http://www.dixmontstat....com/Cammaratta.html which now houses a Glen Montessouri School and ironically, the Verland Institute which provides services for the mentally retarded. This building is on the very edge of the property, right next to the site of the old gatehouse which burned down recently. It is just a boring old 50's style plain brick structure.

man i love old machines like this they have facinated me since i was like 4 years old. i love all of your gallerys the power plants are my favorite.

I live in Amhearst now but i used to live on Grant Street Literally right across the street from the hospital. This was actually considered one of the more humane hospitals. My Great-Uncle went to the alcohol treatment centers in the front. It was a very nice facility. I can agree with others that when i first saw it when i was about 6 years old i was seriously freaked out. At night whent eh lights show only on the towers it looks like Dracula's Castle or something. One of the scariest looking buildings ever.

hey Motts what do you have to say about ol feds here, he is being a complete ass, and I have seen on other pictures, he is making snide comments about vandalizing historic property. I know ol FEDS does not care but it is rediculous to talk about destroying property and then brag about his conquests, big man there feds, big man.

once again another vandal fesses up on the very site that the building is posteed on and now is threatening other viewers, I feel that this is completely inapropriate and disrespectful to Mott's site. feds, grow up find another site to hackle people on. Do you know Andrew???

There is a machine shop in our town that displays a diesel engine crankshaft out front that is about 20 feet long.

I guess in my opinion, I do not see the stain down by the drains where rust could occur, and unles the porcilin table had been cracked or chipped, I would have to guess that the stain is blood and not rust. blood has a dark almost burgandy to black color and it has been put on a light surface, I believe it to be blood placed there, but as motts said sometime after the facility had been closed.
