You know most people think that Wal-mart is the big fish or strip mall people want to tear asylums down- but it's the condo dev. that want it- look at danvers-just think the reason why the state hosp.are there is because people believed it would be theraputic- looking over water , large green acres of unbelievable landscaping> it wasn't until I had a little more education that I realized the push to demolish these areas. C R A Z Y isn't it?

My mother was in the NSH when it was open-often...it really was a beautiful place!! I know it looks really bad but it was the safest place for her...and the kettle bldg is a scary place in one wing they placed the "cutters" and as one old nurse that I eneded up working with said they never left without being soaked...

I worked at a place that used to be a tuberculoses ( can't spell) hosp. and I had to check the roof for anyone -and there was this little room by itself with no windows that had a chair like that bolted down facing the wall-it was creepy!! The pic just reminded me

It's hard to find in the winter. You'ld never find it in the summer. The area is highly poisoned so not worth trying. I've been there twice since my post here a year ago. Oh yes, the graffiti has completely faded away.

Yes, much research was done at Letchworth regarding the causes of Mental Retardation - in the interest of learning how to reduce and prevent the number of future cases, as well as to understand more about those who were afflicted. One of the most famous scientists in the field, Dr. George Jervis, conducted his work there.

Ummm ... regarding funding -

Letchworth Village WAS a state facility, operated under the auspices of the Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. I worked there for 9 years and am still employed by OMRDD in a group home.
