RII Monthly is wrong. The world's first dark ride debuted in 1928 in New Jersey. The Castle of Terror was installed in 1963 in a circa 1948 walk through fun house building. Castle of Terror was renamed House of Horrors in 1970. The other dark ride John may be referring to was an imported three-decker Pinfari portable "Witch Mill" which operated 1971-1974. From 1948 to 1970, there was another dark ride which was rethemed three times, starting as Laff In The Dark and ending as Jungle Terrors. After 1970, the bulding was removed to expand the midway and to install the Sky Diver.

I only wish there were places like that near me.
Trouble is, round here, anywhere that closes down is either demolished (sometimes BEFORE planning/demolition permission even) to make way for new homes.
Or - quickly converted into (usually expensive) flats.

I'm not sure why tis photo is different, but I love it. It looks so lonely. All the shots from this trip that show nature climbing the buildings just makes me think of how humans extract material from the earth for our use and then abandon them and then nature slowly reconsumes what we took...

I am looking at the google earth picture of this and that big mass of ivy hanging down is not in that picture. Makes me wonder if these were taken in 2004, how old is the google picture?
