No mention of this death when I was there as a seminary student between 1963 and 1967. No students lived in this building. The photo is likely taken from the roof of the three-story school building where the students lived, except for three meals a day.

when I visited the ruins in 1994 the two side altars were reduced by a sledge hammer to two huge piles of rock left on the chapel floor.The main altar was spotted by an alert non SDB priest who had it professionally removed and relocated to a very large parish where it tis now the main altar. This Salesian property was sold at a tax auction sale due to horrendous mismanagement by the Salesians.

That room is VERY frightening in person. Imagine being lost in the tunnel system, not having any idea what building you're under, and then coming across this room. And if it couldn't get any worse, your flashlight begins to die. Happened to me, not a fun experience, although i still love the 'Hurst!

Heh, my buddy almost fell through a step on a staircase that is very similar to this. I thought he was gone, and i had warned him about the step coming up!

The attic of the Philadelphia building is UNBEARABLY hot in the summer.

I loved using that stairwell to get around Hilltop. At one point i almost had a virtual map of it in my head, and could navigate the building pretty easily.
