I was thinking more along the lines that they could be chutes? I can't picture them from any other angle but from what I know or have seen, looks like chutes.. or perhaps those boxes..thingys.. rotated and seperated coal chunks? Or im just way off and wrong.

Its the canister used primarily with NG (nasogastric) tubes. For those of you that dont know what those are.... they are tubes about the size of your pinky that go up your nose, run down your throat, through your vocal cords, and in to your stomach. The contents of your stomach are then sucked in to the canister that you see........... yummy..........

When I drove past in October, I remember seeing this building and getting the chills. It like someone else said in another post. It's not necessarily eerie or creepy because it's haunted. But because of what happened behind those walls. And on such a large scale. I was fascinated and horrified at the same time. I grew up in North Babylon and always was fascinated with old insane asylums and never knew that the World's largest asylum was only a drive away...
