i really wish places like these aren't being demolished, i want to start traveling and doing photography like this but i cant when there aren't any of these cool places... :-(

The bars were to prevent prisoners from pushing guards over, a common occurrence.

Interesting to think that all our high schools- which BTW, are state owned and run- will fall into disues and become abandoned in the future. Some are already becoming defunct.

I think it's quite beautiful. That golden carpet with that ornate silk-like shimmer on the walls... early 20th century style.

The town that was abandoned was Pripyat.

And if I recall, a russian girl pulled some strings and was able to get in about 10 years ago and took photos. She said it was kind-of-safe, as long as she stayed on the cement.

These places were created before the advent of many of our modern medicines. Once we started finding drugs that could fix the chemical imbalances- not to mention huge steps forward in psychiatrics, massive facilities like this were no longer needed.

It's very possible that the people that were here may be productive people in our communities. Of course- some can never be worked back into society, and were probably moved elsewhere, to other facilities.

idunno, look at the contrast, that seat's meant to be a bit bigger than a human bum, that hatch is around the same size, give it a bit of leeway due to perspective...
