this is where inmates used to hang out, but it looks alot different then when I was doing time there..Thats the main block to the right and west block in the middle sticking out.

you were right..This is where inmates were booked in and released. You were brought in through the big doors then they closed behind you and you knew you were not free anymore........

this is the main rotunda where the visits happend and the brass had offices.
way back in the day this is where inmates were hung,the stairs lead to platforms where citizens would watch the hanging. The last person to die by hanging in massachusetts was hung here for killing his family...

this staircase ran from the main rotunda to the A section of the jail.

there was really no warden, there was the sherriff of hampden county who ran the jail but did not stay in the "sherriffs house".
They used this place for work release and day reporting inmaes.

this gate led from the west block(pc&high profile cases) to the visiting rotunda.

the different colors were of no signifigance, they were painted like this because thats what they had for paint.

this was a three man cell at the ends of each tier

I don't think it should be demolished. Ok, signs should be placed in order to warn people as to its condition, but come on! If you're willing to go inside a place like this, you should always be careful and respectful. Irresponsible bahviour leads to accidents as everywhere.
