I read the book 'Project 17' by laurie stolarz its really good its about Danver State Hospital.

i was a patient at the age of 9yrs for one month...it was a horrible experience. the year was 1970 and i couldn't understand why i was in such a place with kids who where profoundly mentally ill. i would give anything to have access to my records from gaebler...

Ya know, from anyone else I would have thought this meant you were previously incarcerated:

Interesting shot. I find it odd though that glass mirrors would be used after all a patient could smash the glass and use it as a weapon or harm themselves.

But Terri ...please remember that this was a different time. If you had a "different looking" or "slow" kid..either evident from birth or thereafter...alot of the medical professionals would highly insist that these kids go to places like Pennhurst. Rarely did a family keep their loved one home & out in public for all to see. If families did provide care within the home.....noboby knew they did!

that's not an examination table...it was used as a changing table for residents that wore a diaper. Although they are no longer used, there are similar tables throughout currently operational PA institutions.
