I worked at Sunnycroft in the late 1960's! an dleft to get married in 1971. Married a fellow Sunnycroft employee Al Morrin..long story....but anyway it was fun to find this blog!

i would really love to see pics of this wonderful place in the fifties, sixties and seventies. id like to see what the students looked like, did they wear a uniform? id love to see pics of the inside of this wonderful place in the same eras. do any exist? how can i view them??? maybe someone could email me some...im so intrigued by this place now....stevehussey@live.com.au

Again, Lynne is displaying her not-so-kind attitude laced with some condecention......SO NICE SEEING YOUR POOR ATTITUDE...for being in the heath profession, sounds like you need a couple hours yourself.

Once again, we have all been 'schooled' by Lynne...am I the ONLY ONE that finds her the most irritating person that comments? She seemingly is screaming for attention (good or bad)-the only person who insists on posting multiple paragraphs. Why do you all bow down to her?

What can I say about records? When I called my attorney several years after my case supposedly closed, he said he had destroyed my file. I was livid that he didn't at least offer me what was there, even though I had copies of most everything, there was a lot that I didn't have and for him just to heave ho and toss 5 years of my life away I think was wrong. Not to mention the fact that we were pretty close friends, this was a shock to find out I was just tossed out. Then on to the doctors office. When this office I had been going to for years closed, I asked for my file. They REFUSED and this was MY file! I raised holy hell and demanded my file which I eventually got a COPY of for several hundred dollars. The originals I was told were going "into storage". I often wonder where they are now and who has had read them. Nothing interesting but sometimes funny when they would write that I was "conbatative" or "irratating" today. I think there needs to be a whole revamping of these file systems and who has access to them and who decides what to do with them when they're finished. I think patients should have some rights to have their own records especially if a doctors office is closing.

still think of this place all the time, when i read the local paper there is always stupid things happening on kirk bride drive , car breaks, assaults, funny thing is it pobably gives the local police more grief now than when it was abandoned.

danzamiami, please research before you make accusations such as this. that is a severe and extreme statement, and it is not true. or at least not wholly true. i have done extensive unbiased reseach on the history of pennhurst and have concluded that the nurses were doing the best they could with the situation presented. their dedication and love for the residents was evident. yes, their was abuse. but it was because of how many residents there were to how few nurses and staff. the most accurate ratio ive obtained was 48 residents to 3 staff. now imagine trying to teach, love, and form relationships with 48 residents that had severe disabilities. this is unreasonable and an unobtainable goal. it was a matter of controlling the residents and trying to prevent injuries/ harm. oftentimes when a resident became violent, muffs were necessary, to prevent them from hurting themselves, the nurses and the other clients on the ward. please understand that the nurses and staff were dealing with something that the public refused to acknowledge was there. who are we to judge these courageous, dedicated people?

maybe i'm misunderstanding the logistics, but when i imagine this being used to clean bedpans i see lots of splashing, i'm assuming that's not the case
