What do you mean, no restraints? I also work in a hospital, and we routinely have to restrain suicidal, violent, or confused patients. Even back then (as Lynne the psych nurse has said MANY times), it was done for the safety of both these people and the staff, not as a form of torture!

It's more or less an old school chest tube system. The physics in the new ones is largely the same, just sleeker and plastic.
