Wow, I just realized that comment was from 5 years ago. Doubt she'll ever see it, hehe.

@ Kara:

What do you mean, no restraints? I also work in a hospital, and we routinely have to restrain suicidal, violent, or confused patients. Even back then (as Lynne the psych nurse has said MANY times), it was done for the safety of both these people and the staff, not as a form of torture!

@ Steam Power (though the comment is two years old haha)

I live in Ypsi, and grew up near here. From what I was always told, the Forensic Center was for people who had been declared criminally insane. They actually ended up building a HUGE new replacement for this right across the street (the old property is now a Honda plant).

It was always kind of scary living near here and the Huron Valley prisons (men's and women's). Every once in awhile you'd see a whole crap load of cop cars out, and hear a helicopter...and you knew to stay inside and lock your doors haha.

It's kind of weird but, it kinda fits with the steam room/sauna idea. 70• C is like what? 150• F? That would put off an awful lot of steam. Though a tub like that would be a pretty inefficient way to do it....

The colors and era of this hallway remind me a lot of the game BioShock.

Not sure why, but for some reason this reminds me of a skull.

Motts, SOOO glad you decided to come do this one. If anybody can do it justice, it's you!

Maybe the length was to accommodate stretchers? Though since the entrance is up a little bit off of the ground I'm not sure...

That thing above the door on the ceiling kind of looks like a meat hook...

It does seem odd that a Quaker institution would have a room #666...

Not that it's not 3 years later (and anyone who was in the original discussion will no doubt never see this)...but the part about HIPAA and names isn't true. I am a Cardiac Monitoring Tech, and down each patient hallway (every 4 rooms or so) of our hospital is a big screen with each room number, patient name, and their heart rhythm/recent vitals. There is no specific "nurses station" any more, just small alcoves with desks between rooms...and so the screen is kind of necessity. Seems like JHACO (the hospital oversight group) would've shut us down long ago if it was indeed a violation of HIPAA.

A really good site for Momento Mori, though I think it's gone pay now.
