The facility where I work has been referred to as the Nut Hut and the Whack Shack. The old-timers refer to it as the asylum or the hospital on the hill. They took our old building down probably 20 years ago.
When I was eight I would attend the stony point ambulance fire works right across the street in the active part of letchworth. My curiosity for the other abandoned buildings wasn't filled up until three years ago. At fifteen I walked through the old medical building like it was nothing. I know where everything is like the back of my hand. Now seventeen when I walk through that building it feels like someone or something is trying to tell me something ....
Its been a long time since i've been there (about 10 years or so) but I recall wandering through vast underground tunnels that connect the buildings. There were a number of these rooms that had a series of these tubs. The other rooms that seemed odd to us were the ones with rows of what looked like barbers chairs. I also recall exiting the tunnels that adjoin the buildings through a man hole in the street.
Hi, I'm Derek, I'm new. Please tell me if I'm violating any rules and posting in the wrong thread. I just wanted to say hello..
I'm just being friendly.
My mother had a nervous breakdown when I was born. As I was growing up,everything was a secret. I found out she was put in Pilgrim State in mid 1950's. I think she is alive still, but not doing well. I made contact, but it was like meeting a stranger. She tried to see me when I was young, but it didn't work out. It's sad that maybe the next time you see your mother will be at her wake. Such tragedy and loss. These pictures haunt me and send me back in time. A time I never had and a time that was lost forever. May she be well and know that I always loved her and looked for her. This is too much for me. I need to let it go, but I can't and probably never will. If there is a God,please watch over her and bring her comfort. Life rejected my mother...so sad.
I remember times when patients would dissapear for days, and when they showed back up, they couldn't remember anything of where they had been or what happened. Electric shocks and labotomies were common practice here......
This was the TV room. I remeber walking into it when the medicine started to wear off and I could function. Upon entering the room, I noticed the TV jumping from one channel to another everyime someone would move around. The static electricity was so thick in this particular room, your hair would stand on end, and people would shock each other by touching.....strange electrons in this room for sure. I stayed out after just a couple of visits....
