I stayed in a hotel recently to do some training for my job...
The lifts were fine... It was the stairs that scared me :)
The whole of the hotel was modern and built up, but the stairs were left behind... brown tiles and a steralised feel to them... one metal staircase rail fitted on the wall, and just flights and flights of stairs...
I can just imagine one person standing in each door way...
Pale, solitary and expresionless.
Waiting for some sort of order, or demand, to be asked of them.
They would obey, because they have no other options. Once you go in, you never come back out. Your soul no longer is 'your soul'.
Ah, the 70s. Elvis would have loved this suite. The fireplace is awesome. I'm surprised a dresser & a window table were still intact. I noticed a chain hanging from the ceiling which held a light fixture called a "swag" lamp. Very popular in the day. I bet there was pink shag carpeting under all that debris and insulation. I can picture a darkened room with a lone TV on. "The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson" is heard but ignored by the young newlyweds.
My great-grandmother (originally from Ireland) was am inmate here from 1903 until 1912. She never made it out- died of tuberculosis at age 53. She was committed by her husband right after she had his 6th child at age 44. She was apparently violent and dangerous, heard voices, and had delusions (equivalent of today's paranoid schizophrenia).
I wonder where they buried her? Does anyone know if they have a patient graveyard there?

I can picture a wedding reception being held here in the 1970s. The groom is wearing a power blue polyester tux with dark blue velvet bow tie & lapels & stripe down each leg. The bridesmaids are dressed in pastel colors. The DJ is playing KC & the Sunshine Band or Abba on the turntable. I bet many a wedding cake was cut in this room over the years.
I wonder how many of these buildings are still standing.. I hope to go to Florida In Feb or in spring and hope to explore. Anyone want to join me? Email me at Jackiebob45@yahoo.com. Hi Debbie.
That school will forever be the best part of my life. I am saddened that it has ended up that way and most recently by the discovery that Father Dick was accused of molestation. What a great school though and great times. I tell my kids all the time about those etiquette classes in the library on Saturdays.
It must have been a real bitch to dismantle all this during demolition. They would have gutted the building before knocking it down. Muscle, sweat, & blowtorches.
The beauty shines through in spite of the graffiti & decay. I wonder where that huge support beam is right now. I hope someone salvaged it before the the building fell.
What a crying shame. Another beautiful building falls to the wrecking ball. These incredible photographs (a nanosecond captured in time) are all that remains. Thank you Motts.
