Having been left economically destitute after the fall, it would seem the area had little resources available to preserve such things. Vandals smashing windows out aren't helping matters either.

The area seems fairly populated and other abandoned complexes exist. Perhaps some spite for the Soviets plays a part also?

That is why it is known as the 'craftsman" era...

It would seem that Ludwig Gentz was the MC Hammer of this caper. If the outer structure is any indication, the original interior plans that never materialized must had been quite spectacular as well. It was easy-come, easy-go with Pop's fortune, huh Ludwig? The more things change....

They used to just expect that state buildings would be "stately'" back in those days. They also used to build state-owned buildings with an eye towards what it might end up being converted to in the future, very practical.

I have one of these paint by number pictures I painted as a teenager. I even made the frame for it. My Mother wouldn't let me have it until after she had died.

that door would have to be locked after 5pm to keep the patients seperated from the outside world. doors would open at 9am, they go for some fresh air, etc. then round them up like cattle b4 5pm. locked in. goodnight. not much has changed with that policy in mental units today. i have been in a mental unit. for my stupidity in self harm. they will never be nice places to be in. and they dope you up to the nines so you dont cause trouble for them. sad really.

This is likely a bomb shelter. Funny that they put it under their ordnance.
