I read your comment, Mr. Motts, about how the workers on the barge had to level, with shovels, the load that just came down, so that the barge did not list or tip. What backbreaking work.

This end is opposite the crankshaft. A well lubricated shaft that the steam piston is on moves in and out of the cylinder inside this housing.

I really like this shot, too! What with the natural light being the way it is, and the steel rails probably being rusted, the rails almost look like they're made of copper in this photo. Of course, they're not! : ) Copper is wa-a-a -y too soft a metal to hold up under hardlly any weight!
