Motts, long time reader; first time poster here. After reading your memorial to your friend, I felt like I had to post to pay respects. Over the years, I have watched this blog grow into one of the web's quintessential urbex photography sites, and your work sparked my interest and involvement in urbex and abandoned building preservation. Although your friend has passed, his memory will live on through Opacity. RIP, and my condolences.

Awesome photo! The beds, arch, and glow of orange form the brickwork outside. Looks like there was also a newer style bed just inside the arch that had head and foot board.

That flushed is just good to have around :) Thanks! :) Ya know, i just can't believe it not green. The barred area is most likely where a guard stood to watch over the patients.

The decay is amazing...Goodness, that also sounds like a bad joke given the circumstances of all the ones buried here. Maybe, i should just say the decay of the roof is amazing.

My heart goes out to all , Motts, Mama, and all the dead on this island. The past history posted is quite sobering and sad, and i can't imagine walking the grounds of this place, knowing the circumstances. What an experience! Will look forward to your photos.

My grandparents worked here back during its heyday. My grandfather played his fiddle on the roof. I heard it was the talk of the town back in it's day. Also, I heard the real reason it shut down was because the boiler room caught on fire. Thanks for the history!
