This is totally amazing! Motts, could you please tell us more about the black hole you slipped down into to find this bowling alley? A private stairwell? A covered over basement? Really Curious!
I wonder if any student year books have ever surfaced ? 50's, 60's, 70s, would be especially interesting. I keep checking ebay but no luck so far. I realize many of the students were very affluent. VHS/Betamax was still very expensive in the late 1970's, maybe some courses like Speech or debate were videotaped for some glimpses of what it looked like then?
I worked there in 1974 and will never forget the experiences for as long as I live. Seeing the photos brought back the same feelings I had back then, sadness for the residents-the atmosphere so bleak. We created laughter whenever possible though, it was absolutely necessary for every ones sake.
Ohh dear wanderer - indeed hope the brave fine Mr. M. sees+reads this awesomelong thread.
YES - there are plenty of pictures taken of Bennett School for Girls,
in snow shroud, at Millbrooke, NY; on Jan. 24th 2015 -
thus absolutely recently - so just look for them, wanderer, crafty detective style as usual, hahaha.........and
- best wish for another extreme revelation of the Magic of Nature taking over.... Man-made constructions vs ..Nature = FTW!
I worked there for a time.....it was an overcrowded hellhole where a lot of families dropped off their mentally disabled family members to get rid of them. When I worked there in the nineteen sixties, very few patients were being treated for their illnesses. It was a prison for the mentally ill and disabled. As a professional. I left there in complete disgust as did many others. If it looks "spooky" think of it as a horror movie without the filmmakers.
