Evrery time I look at this picture, the room looks like its in worse condition! lol
Barbara,
That's an interesting thought... if a patient happend to wander into the abandoned area of the hospital.... especially if its connected somewhere by a hallway. Probably the first thought that would come to my mind might be - this is the " Snake Pit ".

You're truly handy with your camera - ever experience ghostly apparition or phenomena?

Hi there!

I'm a new fan of yours... your pictures will immortalize the places that these poor people had to live the last of their lives. Thanks for doing this - you're amazing for having the gall to go in!

Triniphen....
Wow! I guess a picture does speak a thousand words...
ROFL!
Wow 1st hospital you didnt find a mourge (sp) in.....
Twug.....

Don't you find it a little ODD that a Mental Hospital would come equipped with coffins? I can't speak for Motts... but I think perhaps the object here was the oddity of it all (along with the fact that they made interesting shots.... Don't ya think?).
Having inherited letters written by a second cousin who was an "inmate" at Pennhurst , she speaks of
of course, how bad she wants out of this "very bad place ...." Soon after writing that letter, a letter from Edward A Whilton, MD, Unit I Physician was received stating she was taken to Memorial hospital "because of pregnancy." My guess, from other letters she had written, she was raped. How can one be raped if sleeping in dormatory fashion? Her letters were fairly vague, probably because they were monitored before mailing, but one can read between the lines. I believe she was one of the boarderline inmates because she was released onto the streets in 1977. A letter from
C. Duane Youngberg, Superintendent notified her brother of her release. I'm dong ancestry research and any information anyone has on where to obtain inmate records would be much appreciated. Ellen

My Father was the administrator of the hospital from 1952 to 1978. Every Thanksgiving and Christmas I use to go with him to this caf. where he met with and wished every table a happy holiday. It wasn't much but I remember most of the patients stood up and wished him something in return. It ment something to them.

This place looks A LOT like this one park located in Wisconsin Dells I believe (or is there an Enchanted Forest there? or was there...?) Anyways, I probably was there when I was three, I remember the statues and stuff that looked just like this...and those feet and the cage...it was like the exact same thing was there.
