Bravo again! Great photography! And I'm blown away by the effort and care put into making this building beautiful for those who had to live there. There are so many gorgeous architectural details -- and it certainly would have been cheaper, easier and faster NOT to have bothered with all that. How wonderful they cared enough to go to the trouble. Doesn't this one look llike it could be a part of an Elizabethan maoor house if you just cover the roof with your hand? Amazing!
BEAUTIFUL!!! You are a very gifted photographer.! I went to Smith and I went thru the grounds in 2000 (the weekend of the wonderful "festival", when the whole hospital was wired and playing Bach out of every window. Literally unbelievably moving) and again in 2003. My pix didn't turn out anything like these! What a gift to all of us who love it to have these scenes preserved for all time. Thank you.
Ugh, I hate those dental impression trays! The plaster always triggered my gag reflex and I'd spit up a little. Blech, it's been at least 15 years since I've had one of those "torture" devices in my mouth, and I remember -exactly- what they feel like. Ugh!!
I understand that now it's possible to use lasers to precisely map the interior of the mouth, rendering these things obsolete. All I can say is, it's a damn good thing, and about time!
dear sir,
i came to look at pictures of Dixmont hospital (long story) and found your website, i believe i have fallen for your photography! i have been here hours ... my rear is numb, and i believe my hounds are peeved because i am 2 hours past dinner.... i will return. Beautiful work!
Radical Ed~my grandparents used to live back on Townsend Rd from about 1972 to 1997. It was right by E-1. My grandpop had a shop and 2 houses back there, til they started buliding the industrial park around them. The road was real narrow and overgrown w/ weeds and cornfields. We used to play in E-1. But, up on one of the top floors, there was a massive hole that went down to what looked to be a basement. It scared the shit outta me. We used to find alot of dead animals and hear chanting and screaming from the people that hung out there at night. Dozens upon dozens of huge fires there too within those years. Was E-1 the main building over there?? Now, I think it's some sort of administration bldg or credit union. Is there anything left of the 'E' bldgs now?
CM~please stop w/ all that whining! It is what it is! It's been like this for decades! Why bitch about it now? If it bothers u so much, why don't you grow some balls and go in and paint over it!?
Your photos are wonderful you have a very dalented eye. Seeing all these wonderful homes abandoned just breaks my heart .I would do just about anything to being able to buy and restore just one of these beautiful homes. They just don't make them like this anymore and that's a real shame.
