Janene,
Thanks for the correction on Alumnae Hall. I don't remember much about which one was which, I was just a tot when we used to drop my dad off at work there when mom needed the car. Pop worked there from the early 40's until the place closed in the wee eighties. We're all sadened to see this beautiful old building fall to ruin. In all the years dad worked there, I never had a single "tour" of the place. Both of my brothers remember the elevator shown in Motts photos - they worked there during summer vacations while the girls were away. Still, lots of fond memories and tons of dad's stories about the place - Meeting folks on the internet with similar interests in Halcyon/Bennett has been a wonderful experience. Maybe our collective energy can have a positive effect on the situation?

Janne,
You're correct - I believe the boxy dorm was Alumnae hall and I think the chapel is now where the current caretaker lives. It was renovated into a residence shortly after the close of Bennett School by a local artist who shortly thereafter passed away. If you'd like to drop me a line, I'd love to hear from you, share my "stories" and reminisce a bit.

So, Pat, you're a Millbrookian? You know, the loss of this building is wrong on so many levels for the town of Millbrook. They were hugely dependent upon Bennett for many, many years - all those rich girls spending money in their little "shoppes." A good number of the original workers who created Halcyon were brought tho this country specifically for the construction of Halcyon. Now, Millbrook is home to Antiques and a haven for the "rich and famous." Just makes my blood boil - good luck with your project on Mr. Ware...
Wow, so often there are people who have noidea what they're talking about when it comes to Halcyon Hall. Looks like Pat Ratchet really has studied the place. Thanks for your interest, when the place is demo'd, my dad's spirit can finally rest.
The plants coming in the windows is most likey english ivy. It grew all over the building and while the place was in operation, it was kept under control... Wisteria grows in the south/more temperate climes.
