This looks like a 78 rpm record player, look at the small spindle - also the tone arm looks like the Cobra type that Zenith manufactured (and supplied other companies with) which would date this unit from the late 40's on. The Cobra name came from the fact that the tone arm sort of resembled a snake, they would even paint little black dots where the eyes would be. I had several of these and they did sound great for playing 78s.
It was common practice in the 70's to "cover up" things rather than remove or remodel. My house was done like that in the 70's, brown panneling over nice plaster walls, and that god awful orange shag rug over beautiful hardwood floors. What in gods name were they thinking?
It amazes me how one photograph can bring forth such emotion -
wow! love the ceiling -
WHO TOOK THE @#!*#!! RAILINGS?!?!
That red almost looks like velvet -
We actually had these in an office I worked at not too long ago. There were several big windows between each of the offices so the supervisor at the end could look through and see what everyone was doing - now I know where this comes from!
Those shower heads seem a bit close to each other, I'd hate to drop the soap in this place -
As everyone else here, I offer my thanks too Mr. Motts - although I always get a bit sad when I get to the end. . I just want the pictures to go on and on -
Check out that crack right down the center of the ceiling. . hmmmmmm
This shot has a never ending look to it - like you could walk down that hall and just keep going forever - I noticed in this picture as so many others that the windows and doors are usually wide open - are they left that way or do you open them to make the shot interesting?
For once in my life I'm freakin' SPEACHLESS
Take a simple long hall or room, give it a vaulted ceiling and presto - BEAUTIFUL!
Ever since I stumbled upon this site a couple years ago, I'm hooked and can't leave. I see other "urbex" sites out there but they are inferrior - they offer no history, no description of what the photo is, and no comments. This is the BEST and I so envy Mr. Motts and wish I could meet him and go exploring with camera in hand.
That looks like one of those things that they used to teach gorillas with -
