Wow..hello! People are obsessed with being "politically correct" today. But duh..back then, the word "retarded" was a valid term..it wasn't a slam to the patient. It was used back then like we use "mentally challenged" today. I get a little tired of the constant PC crap.

Liza..my ex husband did that to me, too. His was going on for 3 years before I found out! He chose her over me, which was a good thing, because I deserve better. I have struggled mightily emotionally ever since, so I can sympathize with what your Grandma went through. Our divorce has been final for a year and a half, and it still feels like I found out about the affair yesterday. It hurts.

"Can't disclose" is full of crap. Always these little jabs at how horrible it was..but never any valid information. As Lynne said..if you REALLY worked there and saw abuse, what did you do about it?

It's amazing as I browse the galleries..the ignorance of people. I would guess the majority of those that are saying how horrible it was, the people were treated horribly, etc. have no clue, and did not work there. I always like it when Lynne puts them in their place. Unless you actually worked there, or lived there, shut up!

Good grief Tree! There's an unwritten rule among the majority of Urban Explorers..TAKE NOTHING, LEAVE NOTHING. The majority are there to photograph HISTORY! As more and more old buildings disappear every day, it's photographers like Motts who keep these memories alive for those of us who are fascinated with history and old buildings. Give it a rest, would you!

Hi formerpt74..I am glad to read your post. I think a lot of people speculate about what horrors patients went through at these hospitals. No one can judge unless they've been a patient, like yourself. I have never been one. That's not to say that abuses never happened..but I think there were good people working hard to take care of patients in most instances.
