As a side note, I had a great aunt who often checked herself into Manteno. Although she did not like the electroshock treatments she received, she was quite happy there and felt very safe.
I was there last weekend. The room has now been painted over, and the tubs are gone. All that remains is a bit of the writing on the bases where the tubs were.
I went to the hospitals a couple years back (maybe 2 or 3?). We parked at the shopping center across from the water tower and ran our way across 450 and up the hill-- theres a couple paths that you can see. Basically just bobbed and weaved in the tall grass on that hill. Got up to the top and chilled out for minute waiting for the rest of the group. Everyone got together and we were on our way. We freaked out when we came across two people but they were just hanging out in the field on a date sort of thing. Eventually spot lights hit the field and we hit the ground, then an accident happened on 450 at the light and all the cops fled to that, so we were pretty much home free. No more cops after that. So we proceeded to the childrens hosp, looked around, got bored as it was the 3rd time we checked it out. Then we headed to the nurses quarters in which we... FOUND THE TUNNELS! We went down and traveled for what seemed like forever. No dead ends. No bars. Just maybe a maximum of an inch of water at times. It was definatly cool. Only road block was from stones that had been thrown down a man hole that blocked the path somewhat, but we could have still gotten around. Eventually we climbed out and we were by the adult hosp. Started walking out, and BAM! Theres the security trailer. We snuck by and back across the street, through the field, and back to the cars. Really cool place to go. A couple weeks later a few friends of mine got caught-- 5 people went, 3 hid in the woods and never got caught, 2 got nabbed and only the one over 18 got community service and a fine. The other got a slap on the wrist. One of the spookiest places I've been but definatly worth it. PS-- DON'T park in the parking lots across from the hospital-- the cops said they would have never known they were there if they hadn't parked there. And if you park in the shopping center DON'T wear all black-- Dead give away!!
Apparently none of you who have posted commments had a mother who spent much of her adult life at North Hampton State Hospital. As a child I visited my mother there. My Graduate Thesis was based on my memories of visiting her there. I hurts me to hear many of you say you would love to go through the patient records. My mother's records are there and I would like to have them. Does any one know how I can get them?
to bug56....paranormal investigation is a very real and very scientific thing...learn a little about it before telling people to "grow up and stop chasing ghosts" Are you saying that it's "immature" to believe, research, and investigate what is beyond the realm of the human senses???
And to EPI....good luck with your investigating but do brush up on your spelling!!!
Does anyone know the story of Mikey? Cuz I really want to find out for research I'm doing (I'm a paranormal investigator) I was over in Letchworth and it's definitely "alive" with activity. That and does anyone have any idea of what buildings are which (I can't remember the layout of the grounds)
the explanation fo the restraints were interesting. The drawing up top made the whole thing awesome. I could use these at my job, i would be fired tho since any type of restraints is forbidden. Even tho it would help from getting bit, punched, headbutted.. things like that
