I would rather take a piece of decaying history and have it on display in my house, than to leave it fully knowing that it will eventually come in contact with some destructive fool. In no way do I condone the action of spray-painting, breaking glass, littering, etc. but I see no harm in taking a small souvenir or two from a place filled with such historic and emotional value. Instead of the object becoming further dismantled by those who have no respect, you could take it and give it a home and be able to share what significance it may have had in a place like Pennhurst. It is a living relic of a horrible past and that to me is beautiful.
