Yes, the photo is a supporting lift. It was used to help transfer patients to different area of the hospital. The modern day terminology is now called a "Hoyer Lift."

This area is where patients go for fresh air and sunshine. It is called a "solar room". Solar meaning "sun."

What you are visualizing is nothing more than a vest restraint. We used them a lot where I worked as a registered nurse. I worked in a hospital. They do not use these kinds of restraints anymore. Nor do they use chemical restraints. These vests were dangerous to a patient due to suffocation and other risk factors.

So much for patient confidentiality. That would be a medical taboo into today's society. I absolutely love these sites about abandoned buildings. They seem to hide a myriad of secrets.

I went there over the summer with three friends. creepy as hell. I swear we heard a hospital cart going down the hallway, but there was no one else there besides us.

i was there today and um being there with 5 girls no guys bad idea....it is very very scary

me and my friends live in rockland and heard bout this so um bascially it was 4 girls in a dark tunnel while one friend stood on top n said sh eheard foot steps

My great grandmother suffered a breakdown at the hands of her abusive husband, and was given a labotomy . She was housed at Pilgrim State Hosp. for 62 years. she died in 1990 @ the age of 82. i would love to visit.
