Apparently reeds were sometimes used for lath and plaster walls in those days.

Thanks - I'm not knocking paranormal investigation; it's simply a little jest at the stories that surround this place. Perhaps some bad things happened here (who knows), but to accuse the Red Cross of torturing children with ECT and burying them in a mass grave seems pretty far fetched.

I'm not too sure what happens in regards of giving birth in a psychiatric hospital - my guess is that the patient would be transferred to a general hospital, as the state institution probably didn't have the optimal facilities to help a woman give birth or to take care of newborns.

I was standing on the last solid floor joist in the previous photo :)

Thanks - I used an infrared lens filter which blocks out most visible light waves, and allows the camera to capture wavelengths not visible to the human eye. The original photo is very red.

Unfortunately my setup won't pull out much color, so they are usually monochromatic, and I add a tint during post-processing.

The film "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" features some stunning surrealistic backdrops reminiscent of the odd-angled window pane work at the top of this window.

Boredom could certainly explain all those thousands of scratches in the plaster walls.

Yeah the layout of this place was odd. I'm guessing that one floor was a huge dormitory and the other was a huge day room. I only recall a few "normal" sized rooms - toilet, hydrotherapy/washroom, nurse's station, closet, private bedroom/seclusion.

Yeah, there's just so much to go through, might be a while :-)
I've only been back to the Pines once briefly a few years ago, but had to get out of there fast, so no photos. I miss it.

I have no idea what the state of the park is these days, but 8 years ago it was not publicly accessible.

Yup they are steam radiators, the pipe goes up from the floor and to the ceiling.

Most of the windows panes were framed in metal; I suppose they were locked up most of the time or it wasn't an issue. There were bars selectively places on some windows as well.

A private bedroom / seclusion room, same as the previous two photos.

They are sinks (a bit smashed out); I think the door leads to one of the tub rooms.

I think you're confused - I'm not playing the super-duper-secret-UE-location game. What details I share are a very personal preference, and I don't think you should expect them to coincide with your views and feelings.

Feel free to run your own website / book / projects, and I'll stick to mine.
