There are many people in the hallway because this was an event held where people from all over the US and Canada were attending. Most had been exploring for quite some time.

The building materials used seemed pretty cheap and shoddy to me but I am no expert. When a building is boarded tight, sometimes more damage is done by not letting it "breathe" freely as moisture, mold, and heat are not vented.

It was a maglite actually. If the exposure time is set long enough and the light is moved around a lot, the more diffused light you will get.
