I was a patient in Building 22,wards 218 & 219 back in the late 80`s.I was a bouncer in a bar for years ,and used to protecting customers from fighting each other.I protected many patients ,and staff on 218 from getting hurt by clients. If anyone worked in bldg 22 at the time I was there ,they never abused me or any of the patients.I can say in the entire year I was 2 PC ,I never had to be restrained,or felt like I needed to worry about the staff. You may have remembered me as the patient that that powered walked out in the yard for hours everyday, and played spades with the staff. One morning I was waiting for chow, playing solitaire, and another client broke the metal leg off a table. There was a female TA with her back turned towards him just about to get hit in the head.I dove on the guy ,then the goon squad dove one me,like a football pile up.I had a brand new Iron man watch smashed from the pile on.Another time we had a TA that used to come in hung over on the weekend, and would sit in the day room sleeping instead of taking taking us outside. One day when we were lined up for lunch, two other clients my size jumped him.I grappled both of them to the ground at the same time. The TA thanked me ,but quit ,or got transferred ,never saw him again. Most TA know me for taking out the biggest problem bully in building 22.I caught him raping a girls in under a stair well that went from the ward to the yard.He got mad and flipped all the pick nick tables over, the guy was a giant.Well one evening in the rec room ,this giant pushed me.I pushed him across the room ,and bounced him off the wall to the ground.I was ready to punch him in the face, and the TA grabbed my hand to stop me.I was pissed off. This giant was constantly trying to press charges against the staff, and they still protected him,did their job.The next day their was an investigator down from Buffalo asking me what happened because he claimed the beat him up,not me.The look on the investigators face when I told him ,if not for the staff ,he would probably had a code blue called after I was finished with him.I was in for bipolar disorder ,waiting to go to Transitional services.
