From what they say on the news, Walter Reed Military Hospital doesn't look much different that that.....

It sure is odd The Pines ended up like this. When my dad was 19, he and my uncle met some friends here and travelled on to Woodstock. I stayed with him and mom here in July 1996 at age 6. I remember it quite well, we drove all the way from Kansas for a family reunion with my cousin Jim and his wife. Dad even knew the owner, Cliff Elrich. Thanks to Elrich, I probably won't be able to take my kids here in the future.

My dad is an acquaintance of Cliff Elrich, the owner. That guy didn't manage his buisness very well. BTW, he's also now the director of Empire Resorts.

In the upper lefthand, you can see that "seafoam green" that is still widely used in hospitals today.

They should pay OCD folks to fix up these old asylums. They'd love scraping the paint....

This is a TV and Radio combo from the late 1950's. Looks like a Philco or an RCA model.
That dark gray thing is probably a VCR.

It amazes me how fast some buildings deteriorate. The roof falls in only after 12 years........

Geez, dandylions and moss growing in the lobby carpet. I never would have guessed the Pines would have ended up this way. However, back in 7/96, it was showing its age.

When I stayed here, I never did use the indoor pool.

I can't believe it's deteriorated this much in just 11 years....

Wow, these pictures really bring back memories. Thank you, Motts, for posting these.
I stayed at The Pines for a week in 1996 for a family reunion when I was 6. Searching for the Pines online is how I found Opacity. Too bad the hotel closed.
