This building was to renovated into offices and restaurants, but the York City council vetoed the idea, keeping the area blighted, so they could apply for federal funds. The city and county would have torn down the structure years ago, but the building is on the Federal Historic Register of Historic Buildings, so they can't. However true to form, the city and county won't allow it to be sold, and refuses any maintenance on the building. When someone burns it down, or it falls down from neglect, the Historic Register will allow them to demolish the old prison, which is how York deals with anything old or historic.
