This is from the website of Hudson River Valley Heritage site. You can scroll down to the actual floor plans. Are you familiar with these? Your model is amazing.
I posted here a while ago. Beautiful photo, Christina. I know what Pat means. I posted some of my paintings on my website, and who knows who might use them, even though they are copyrighted, as is the whole website. Celeste, your Minecraft is amazing!! Very beautifully done.
I'd love to see a recent photo of the front that faces the road.
I posted here a while back. I can't imagine who would want it except for the land it sits on. If Halcyon is collapsing steadily, what could possibly be done with it? Glad to hear that Sandy didn't do much damage. Interesting to know what is going on with her. Keep us posted, Pat.
I find J. Margolis tribute moving as well, as I do Pat's. Thanks, wanderer, for attempting to even photograph Halcyon. Let us remember her as she was, for it is our memories that live on, even if the place itself doesn't. Or, perhaps Halcyon does live on in our collective memories, those are the ones that count. We should be grateful for those memories and for what she stood for. Keep us posted.
Thank you Pat, for the eloquent response. Wanderer, it would be great to see some of your pictures of Halcyon, if and when you do take them on your visit.
Found an interesting article called "The Rise and Fall of Halcyon Hall" on the National Trust for Historic Preservation's website. It is dated August 2011, so is fairly recent. Just Google that site and the article should come up. Pat might be interested in it, as might others also.
Fence, huh? Wonder when that started. Who knows what happens Oct. 1? Maybe nothing. Seems that Halcyon is tearing itself down nevertheless. Interesting reading Pat and Wanderer.
I've been following this site for sometime, and am amazed at how Motts has done a wonderful job of posting photos of Halcyon. In case you're wondering, I visited Bennett many years ago when I was looking at colleges, ended up going elsewhere. What has happened to it in the intervening years is very sad, but things do happen. My own college folded also. Peoples' lives change, times and circumstances change, and nothing lasts forever, sad to say. But that's the way life is.
It's easy and understandable to be passionate about something, especially something beautiful and meaningful that has been an institution for so many years.
Pat, your book on Ware sounds interesting. I enjoy reading the others' opinion here.
Perhaps, this weekend especially, Irene might make a contribution to the fate of Halcyon.
