Jenny Wade was the only NORTHERN civilian killed in the civil war. There were many who died directly or indirectly becuase of war in the south. In Vicksburg there was a baby put near the entrance of a cave (to get air) where people had gone for shelter during the seige who was crushed by a cannon ball.

I have one of these in my factory. It's a frequency converter for 3-Phase power. It levels out the power so that some electric motors can run more efficiently. I have two shapers and I have to turn on my frequency converter before I can run them. It takes a min for the power to stabilize. I have these funky 3-phase light bulbs that slowly light up so I know the power is stable and I can turn the machines on. The real cool part is you can change the brushes without any tools, they just flip up. you can see it on this picture with the exposed ends on the on the closer generators. I've never seen frequency converters like these used on 480-volt 3-phase(common today) just with 550, like mine which is old school. I speculate that these where used to run some auxiliary motors in the factory (blowers, etc.)
